On the anniversary of the Beirut Port Explosion, Patriarch John X of Antioch led a heartfelt prayer for the victims and all those affected by the devastating tragedy that shook Lebanon and the world five years ago.
“On this day,” the Patriarch said, “our hearts remember the catastrophe of the Beirut Port explosion, a calamity that shattered our Lebanese reality and stole loved ones from among us. Today, we pray to the Father of Lights to receive them into His heavenly radiance, to anoint them with His merciful love, and to soothe the hearts of their families with divine consolation.”
With deep compassion, Patriarch John X offered prayers for all who perished in the explosion. He remembered the brave firefighters of the Beirut Fire Brigade, the medical staff of Saint George Hospital, and the countless others who lost their lives or were affected by the horror of that day.
“We pray that God wipes away every tear from the eyes of their families and from our own,” he said. “Today, heart joins with heart in remembrance of our brothers and sisters. Despite everything, we hold fast to the will to live, the force that will one day wipe away the tears of sorrow and paint the smile of tomorrow—of Lebanon’s resurrection.”
