Patriarch John X of Antioch met with Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, President of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches, and Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity, at their headquarters in Rome.
The Patriarch was accompanied on his visit by Archbishop Silouan Moussa (Mount Lebanon).
The two meetings touched on the general situation in the Middle East and ways to strengthen relations. The Patriarch of Antioch stressed the importance of the Christian presence in the Middle East and deploying concerted efforts to consolidate peace that would benefit all components.
Patriarch John X also insisted on rejecting the logic of isolation and external protection, stressing that Christians are an essential component of the social fabric. For his part, Cardinal Sandri and Cardinal Koch stressed the crucial role assigned to the Church of Antioch in opening itself to everyone to spread the message of peace in the Middle East and the world.
