Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East of the Greek Orthodox Church carried out an inspection visit to the Church of St. Elias in Dweilaa, Damascus, in order to review the progress of restoration and maintenance works following the terrorist bombing that targeted the church last June.
During his visit, Patriarch John X was briefed on the repairs completed so far and the ongoing efforts to restore the church, which suffered significant damage as a result of the attack. He expressed his pastoral concern and support for the clergy and faithful of the parish, emphasizing the Church’s steadfast commitment to healing wounds, rebuilding places of worship, and preserving the spiritual and historical heritage of the Christian presence in Syria.
The Patriarch also underlined that acts of violence will not extinguish faith or hope, affirming that the restoration of the church stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, unity, and witness amid hardship.
The visit concluded with prayers for peace, for the repose of the victims of violence, and for the safety and perseverance of all those working toward the restoration of the church and the broader rebuilding of the community.
