With warmth and due honors, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa welcomed Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus.
During their meeting, Demetriou was briefed on the Patriarchate’s extensive and multifaceted mission across the African continent, as well as the challenges it faces in its jurisdiction. In a social media post, she described the meeting as a “great honor”, emphasizing the Patriarch’s tireless efforts to support communities, strengthen Orthodoxy, and safeguard cultural heritage.
As part of her visit, Demetriou was awarded the Medal of Saint Savvas the Sanctified, a recognition of Cyprus’ ongoing support for the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
Praising Patriarch Theodore II, she referred to him as “a bright leader, a tireless servant of the Church, and a steadfast friend of Cypriot Hellenism,” adding that he has “always stood by our people.”
