On February 18, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa traveled from Blantyre (Malawi) to Beira (Mozambique) in order to visit the historic Church of the Holy Trinity, which was built by Greek expatriates in 1886 and now has been greatly damaged due to the cyclone that hit the country last March.
The Holy Trinity Church and the adjacent Greek school were renovated in 2002-2003 under the Patriarch’s patronage, when he was serving as Metropolitan of Zimbabwe, and funded by the Greek Parliament, while all damage from the recent cyclone was fully repaired with the assistance of the Archon of the Ecumenical Throne, Marina Tsichlaki.
The Patriarch referred to his experiences in Beira as Metropolitan of Zimbabwe seventeen years ago, and his struggles for promoting Orthodox faith in Mozambique.
During his visit to Beira he also visited the orphanage built by the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa. The children, as you can see in the following video, warmly welcomed the Patriarch who gave them treats.
