Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodore II, presided over the service of the Akathist Hymn in the Church of the Annunciation in Alexandria on Friday, April 16, 2021, accompanied by the Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria, Metropolitan Narcissus of Naucratis.
The Consul General of Greece to Alexandria, Athanasios Kotsionis, the First Vice President of the Greek Community of Alexandria, Andreas Vafiadis, the President of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Alexandria, Aliki Antoniou, attended the service.
The Patriarch prayed to the Virgin Mary to listen again this year to the supplications of the people.
“The holy icon of the Virgin Mary is adorned with flowers but also with the faithful’s supplications to liberate humankind from the pandemic and to redeem it from Baal’s tyranny,” said the Patriarch of Alexandria. He stressed that we prayed to the Virgin Mary to grant hope and peace to the God-trodden Egypt, the long-suffering Cyprus, and our blessed Greece, and to support the Greek Community of Alexandria and all the faithful in Africa.
