In an atmosphere of deep reverence and emotion, a memorial service was held on Friday, January 22, 2021 in Port Said for the repose of the soul of the late Metropolitan of Pelusium, Niphon.
The memorial service was performed with great emotion by Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa in the church of Saint Nicholas.
Patriarch Theodore referred to the mourning of the Second-throne Patriarchate after the loss of the Blessed Metropolitan of Pelusium, Niphon, who, as the Patriarch said characteristically, dedicated his life to Jesus Christ.
The Patriarch of Alexandria spoke for the first time that he met him in Crete 40 years ago and since then they have been connected by a deep spiritual friendship.
“Why did he leave so quickly? Only Christ has the answer. But today we are all present… As a legacy, he leaves behind his smile”, said the Primate of the Second-throne Patriarchate.
“Niphon loved the church; he had a gift for everyone when he was at the Holy Monastery of Saint George and he had a good word for everyone to comfort and soothe their broken hearts and their sorrows. I am sure that he is present here between us and says a big thank you for honoring him today with your presence”, added Patriarch Theodore.
«…Do not leave him in oblivion. We will always remember him”.
Immediately after the memorial service, Patriarch Theodore offered to all the faithful a diary dedicated to the memory of the blessed hierarch.
