MEP Nikos Papandreou of PASOK met with Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa.
According to a statement issued by Papandreou, the meeting focused on matters concerning the Patriarchate of Alexandria, including the operation of Greek schools, the establishment of a new cultural center in New Cairo, and plans for the historic Averoff Girls’ School in Alexandria, which is set to be transformed into a Higher School of Philosophy and Humanities dedicated to the study and promotion of Hellenism.
The discussion also addressed the social challenges facing the African continent, particularly poverty, as well as the initiatives undertaken by the Patriarchate to support and provide relief to those in need, regardless of their religious affiliation.
Following the meeting, Papandreou highlighted the important role of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Africa, stating that “the work of the Patriarchate of Alexandria once again demonstrates that this ancient Patriarchate serves as a beacon for Greeks and Orthodox Christians across Africa.”
