The Greek Community of Cairo celebrated Christmas eve in an atmosphere charged with emotion along with Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa. The festive events took place at Saint Nicholas Church, Patriarchal Vicariate of Cairo, and the Greek Nursing Home of the Greek Community.
In the morning, the Patriarch of Alexandria officiated the Orthros and the Divine Liturgy at the St. Nicholas Church in Hamzawi. The Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis, Archimandrite Stefanos Soulimiotis and Archimandrite Ioakeim concelebrated the services.
Later on, Patriarch Theodore welcomed the Scouts of Cairo who sang Christmas and New Year carols. The Patriarch of Alexandria spoke to the children one by one and offered them gifts and sweets.
He then visited the chapel of Saint Panteleimon at the Greek Hospital in Cairo, where he lit a candle in front of the icon of the Saint and prayed. In addition, the Patriarch headed to the nursing home of the Greek Community of Cairo. Patriarch Theodore was accompanied by the Scouts of Cairo who with their happy voices and chants created a Christmas atmosphere.
