Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria, currently on a visit to the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, presided over the official opening (Thyranoixia) of the Church of Saint Mark in Kinshasa.
The church, which has been fully renovated and newly adorned with remarkable iconography, received the Patriarch’s blessing during a special service of consecration. The ceremony was attended by the local hierarch Metropolitan Theodosios of Kinshasa, along with other Orthodox bishops and clergy.
Among those present were the Consul General of Greece in Congo and President of the Greek Community of Kinshasa, Gerasimos Ntounis, representatives of local authorities, and members of the Patriarch’s delegation.
During his address, Patriarch Theodore II expressed great joy over the restoration of the church and warmly thanked Metropolitan Theodosios for his dedicated efforts. He also acknowledged the contribution of donors who supported the renovation and the creation of the church’s iconography.
Following the ceremony, the Patriarch visited a nearby school of the missionary center, where students welcomed him with a short program that included songs and theatrical performances. Deeply moved, he addressed the children with heartfelt words, offering guidance and encouragement to both the young and the wider community.
