The events of the second day of the Patriarchal visit to Zambia took place on Friday, May 22, 2026, beginning at the Missionary Center in Lusaka in the presence of Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa.
The events began with an official Doxology at the Church of Saint Basil of the Missionary Center in Lusaka, where the clergy of the Holy Metropolis of Zambia, many faithful, students, and representatives of the Greek and local communities welcomed their spiritual Father.
After the Doxology, the students presented a surprise to His Beatitude, performing hymns and songs in Greek before him.
Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia and Mozambique then briefed His Beatitude on the various activities and programs of the Holy Metropolis in the region, while also asking for the Patriarch’s blessings and guidance for the challenges of the missionary work.
This was followed by the inauguration of the new school wing of the Missionary Center, an important project that strengthens the educational and social work of the Orthodox Mission in Zambia by providing new opportunities for education and accommodation for children in the area.
A foundation stone ceremony was also held for the new clinic currently under construction at the Missionary Center, led by Patriarch Theodore II. The clinic is expected to contribute to the provision of primary healthcare for the local population and further support the humanitarian and social work of the Orthodox Church in the region.
Later that day, His Beatitude visited the Embassy of Egypt in Lusaka at the invitation of Ambassador Mayada Essam, where he received a warm welcome. More than twenty representatives of diplomatic missions from various countries attended the reception held in his honor.
During the meeting, His Beatitude thanked the Arab Republic of Egypt for its continued support of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and its work across Africa. He also referred to Egypt’s historic role as a bridge of peace and culture among peoples.
Throughout the day, the presence of Patriarch Theodore II brought joy and encouragement to the people of Zambia, while the events highlighted the missionary, charitable, and social work of the Patriarchate of Alexandria on the African continent.
