Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa arrived on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo, as part of his pastoral tour of the Metropolises and Dioceses of the ancient Patriarchal Throne, ahead of the forthcoming convocation of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate.
The Patriarch was warmly received at Ivato International Airport by Metropolitan Ignatios of Antananarivo and Northern Madagascar, the country’s Minister of the Interior—representing the President of the Republic—along with a representative of the Egyptian State and the Greek Consul.
In her address, the Minister expressed the great joy of the people of Madagascar at the Patriarch’s fourth visit to the country, praising the multifaceted spiritual, philanthropic, and educational work of the Orthodox Church on the island.
Following his arrival, the Patriarch departed on a domestic flight to the Diocese of Toliara and Southern Madagascar, where he will remain for six days. His program includes a series of pastoral visits, clergy gatherings, ordinations, and consecrations, bringing the message of faith, love, and hope to the large and devout flock of the region.
