On the morning of Friday, 27 February 2026, His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa arrived at Alexandroupoli Airport. The Patriarch visited the region following an invitation from Metropolitan Damaskinos of Didymoteicho, on the occasion of the feast of the Saints Theodores in Orestiada.
Upon his arrival, Patriarch Theodore was warmly received at the airport by Metropolitan Anthimos of Alexandroupolis, Metropolitan Damaskinos of Didymoteicho, and representatives of the local civil authorities.
Following the official welcome, the Patriarch proceeded to the Metropolitan Cathedral, where he venerated the holy relic of Saint Nicholas. A reception in his honor was subsequently held at the Episcopal Residence of the Metropolis.
The visit marks a significant spiritual event for the local Church, highlighting the bonds between the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Metropolises of Northern Greece.
