Patriarch Kirill of Moscow has sent a congratulatory message to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day.
In his message, the Patriarch extended his greetings to the President and all citizens of Belarus, noting that the national holiday commemorates the liberation of Minsk from Nazi occupation during World War II.
Patriarch Kirill described Independence Day as more than a historical anniversary, calling it a symbol of the strength, resilience, and patriotism of the Belarusian people, as well as their commitment to preserving the legacy of previous generations and building the future of the nation.
Patriarch Kirill also expressed gratitude to President Lukashenko for his continued support of the Orthodox Church in Belarus. He voiced hope that cooperation between the Church and the state would continue to develop, contributing to spiritual education, moral and patriotic formation of young people, and the protection of shared interests in the face of contemporary challenges.
Concluding his message, Patriarch Kirill wished President Lukashenko strength, God’s assistance, and success in his service to the country, while praying for peace and prosperity for all the people of Belarus.
