The body of late Patriarch of Serbia, Irinej, who reposed in the Lord due to COVID-19-related complications, lays in repose at the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade so that the faithful can pay their last respects to their hierarch. Faithful can come to the church to pay their last respects and bid farewell to the late hierarch from today at noon.
The authorities appealed to all those who will come to the church to comply with the protection measures.
A panichida was held this morning at the Cathedral Church of Saint Michael the Archangel, in Belgrade with the participation of many hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the presence of hundreds of faithful, inside and outside the church, a few of whom wore face masks.
The funeral service will take place tomorrow at 9:00 am at the Church of Saint Sava while the body of Patriarch Irinej will be placed in a crypt inside the church that was built especially for the burial of Serbian hierarchs. Irinej will be the first Patriarch to be buried in the crypt of the Church of Saint Sava.
Patriarch Irinej tested positive for COVID-19 on November 4 and was admitted to a military hospital in Belgrade on the same day. His health condition began to deteriorate rapidly on November 18 and passed away two days later.
