Patriarch Daniel visited the cemetery of Cernica Monastery on Tuesday to officiate a memorial service at the tomb of one of his mentors, Father Dumitru Staniloae, marking the 28th anniversary of the repose of the great theologian proposed for canonization.
The Romanian Patriarch also visited the graves of three Primate Metropolitans of the Romanian Orthodox Church buried in Cernica: Nifon Rusăilă, Athanasie Mironescu, and Konon Arămescu Donici. The Patriarch prayed for the rest of their souls and lit a candle at their tombs.
The Patriarch of Romania bestowed Diplomas, and the Commemorative Medal of 2021 to those involved in the systematization and redevelopment works at Cernica Monastery’s cemetery.
“We thank those who contributed to the good organization and beautification of the cemetery. It is a cemetery full of special personalities in terms of the service of the Church and the culture of the nation,” His Beatitude said October 5, 2021.
Patriarch Daniel appreciated the map placed at the entrance to the cemetery indicating the tombs of representative personalities of the Orthodox Church.
