On April 13, Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Resurrection in the Krasna Polyana district of Sofia, concelebrating with clergy of the Sofia Diocese.
The service was marked by solemn hymnody performed by chanters and the church choir, while during the Liturgy, Fr. Yoan Stefanov was honored with the ecclesiastical title of protopresbyter.
In his homily, the Patriarch reflected on the profound meaning of Christ’s Resurrection, stressing that human beings are not created for corruption but for eternal life. He noted that without the Resurrection, human existence would lack ultimate meaning, adding that Christ grants hope in divine justice and the promise of eternal life.
He also highlighted the transformation of the Apostles, explaining that their fear was replaced by courage only after encountering the Risen Christ and receiving the grace of the Holy Spirit. This divine grace, he said, continues to strengthen believers in their spiritual struggle and daily lives.
Patriarch Daniel further underlined that trials and difficulties are part of God’s providential plan, guiding the faithful toward stronger faith and deeper trust in Christ. He encouraged the faithful to live with Paschal joy, hope, and unwavering trust in God’s grace.
At the conclusion of the service, the parish council president, Fr. Gotse Hristov, expressed gratitude to the Patriarch for his visit on the occasion of the church’s feast day, offering him a commemorative gift. Children from the parish Sunday school also presented gifts, adding a joyful and festive tone to the celebration.
