The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain is pleased to announce the participation of Archbishop Nikitas at the Athens Democracy Forum entitled, “The New Abnormal: Reimagining Democracy”, September 30 – October 2.
The Forum is the second of its kind organized by the Democracy and Culture Foundation, in association with The New York Times and under the Patronage of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
This prestigious Forum, primarily a virtual event, will gather leaders from government, business, civic society and the non-profit sector with the aim of exploringtangible solutions to challenges facing democracy particularly focused on producing outcomes on multilevels.
The Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain will participate on a panel discussion themed, “The Power of Belief” on Friday, 2nd October 2020, at noon. His co-panellists are Margaritis Schinas, Vice President of the European Commission, and Fatima Zaman, Advocate, Kofi Annan Foundation. Farah Nayeri, Culture Writer, New York Times, will moderate the session and facilitate further discussion on whether religion and ideology hinder or act as guiding lights in a democracy. It is significant to note that, the Archbishop is the only clergyman speaking at the Forum.
