The first Youth Conference hosted by the Archdiocese of Australia focusing on “CHANGE – How we navigate our way through a diverse world” was held successfully in Melbourne. The conference, which was hosted by Oakleigh Grammar and the Greek Orthodox Parish & Community of Sts Anargiri, included speeches on a variety of interesting topics by esteemed speakers, as well as discussions between participants at the end of each session.
The keynote speaker was Archbishop Makarios of Australia, whose speech was entitled “The Cross Stands While the World Turns”. The Archbishop urged the young participants to become the driving force of change.
It is noted that the conference was also attended by Metropolitan Nathaniel of Chicago, Bishop Ezekiel of Dervis, Archimandrite Evmenios Vasilopoulos, and Fr. Georgios Adamakis.
It is recalled that the series of local Youth Conferences, which began in Melbourne on Saturday, January 25, will end in Adelaide on Saturday, April 11. The purpose of the initiative taken by Archbishop Makarios is to urge the young people to express their concerns and desires so that the Archdiocese can design and implement initiatives and actions that will respond effectively to their needs.
