Across Albania, Orthodox Christians gathered in churches on the Sunday of the Veneration of the Holy Cross, one of the most significant moments during the journey of Great Lent. During the services, the faithful participated in the traditional veneration of the Holy Cross and received flowers as a blessing, symbolizing spiritual encouragement on the path toward Pascha.
At the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ Cathedral in Tirana, the celebration was presided over by Archbishop Ioannis of Albania, with the participation of a large number of Orthodox faithful. In his message, the Archbishop emphasized that every meaningful effort in life requires carrying one’s cross.
In the Cathedral of Saint George Cathedral of Fier, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Metropolitan Nicholas of Apollonia and Fier. At the conclusion of the service, he presided over a memorial service for the repose of the soul of Theofan Noli (1882–1965).
Meanwhile, Metropolitan Anthony of Elbasan presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saint Athanasius Church Elbasan. In Berat, Metropolitan Asti of Berat celebrated the service at the Cathedral of Saint Demetrius Cathedral Berat, while the Metropolitan of Korçë officiated at the Cathedral of the Resurrection.
In Gjirokastër, Metropolitan Nathaniel of Gjirokastër presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Resurrection. In his sermon, he reminded the faithful that through the Cross Christ calls believers to continue the Lenten struggle with enthusiasm and joy—through prayer, worship, charity, and love, accompanied by sacrifice.
He encouraged the faithful to hold firmly to the Cross and to follow the living example of Christ throughout their spiritual journey.
In sermons delivered across parishes throughout Albania, clergy emphasized that Christ shed His blood for the salvation of humanity, calling believers to remain steadfast in faith as they continue their Lenten preparation for the celebration of the Resurrection.
