Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa presided over the Divine Liturgy and the ordination of the Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria, Archimandrite Damaskinos (Al-Azrai), to the episcopate on November 1, at the historic Patriarchal Monastery of Saint George in Old Cairo.
Concelebrating with the Patriarch were Metropolitan Theophylaktos of Caesaria; Metropolitan Damaskinos of Orestiada and Soufli; Metropolitan Benedict of Diocesarea from the Church of Jerusalem; Metropolitan Melchizedek of Margveti from the Church of Georgia; Metropolitan Nikolaos of Ermoupolis; Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Trikki; Metropolitan Platon of Lagada; Metropolitan Savvas of Nubia; Metropolitan Daniel of Accra; Metropolitan Germanos of Tamiatheus; and Bishops Nikodemos of Nitria, Prodromos of Toliara, and Stefanos of Hippo. Bishop Chrysostomos of Bukoba was also in attendance.
A large congregation of faithful from Alexandria and Cairo gathered with joy for this blessed occasion, as the newly ordained hierarch had served for many years in Cairo as Abbot of the Monastery of Saint George.
Among those present were the Ambassadors of Greece and Cyprus to Cairo; the Presidents of the Greek and Arabic-speaking Communities of Cairo and Alexandria; representatives of Christian denominations and the Council of Churches of Egypt; numerous clergy from Egypt, Jordan, Greece, and Cyprus; as well as the Bishop’s father and siblings from Jordan.
