A celebration took place today, Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity to honor the Feast of the Three Hierarchs and Greek Letters Day. This cherished tradition, held for over 50 years, brings together children from New York City’s Greek-American day schools. Participating today was the Cathedral School, Greek American Institute (GAI) in the Bronx, A. Fantis School in Brooklyn, DGK in Brooklyn, St. Demetrios Cathedral School in Astoria, and William Spyropoulos Day School in Flushing.
Archbishop Elpidophoros of America led the occasion, presiding over the Divine Liturgy. During his sermon, Archbishop Elpidophoros spoke to the students about the importance of education and faith, emphasizing that true knowledge is a gift from God. After the Liturgy, Archbishop Elpidophoros cut the Vasilopita and distributed pieces to the children, offering blessings for the year ahead.
In his address, Archbishop Elpidophoros encouraged the students, saying, “As you continue your studies, remember to seek knowledge with a heart full of faith and a mind open to the wisdom of God. Let the example of these Three Holy Hierarchs guide you in using the knowledge you gain to serve others and bring light to the world.” His words underscored the importance of combining intellectual growth with spiritual maturity, urging the children to approach their learning with purpose and a sense of responsibility toward their community.
The event was a beautiful reflection of the vibrant educational community and a shared commitment to faith, culture, and academic excellence. It was a joyful occasion, bringing together students, parents, and clergy in a celebration of Greek heritage and the wisdom of the Three Hierarchs.
