The new High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to Australia, Antonis Sammoutis made a visit to the headquarters of the Archdiocesan District of Northcote in Victoria on Monday morning, October 3, 2022.
Sammoutis was welcomed, on behalf of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, by the Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, with the President of the Intercommunities Council of Victoria, Antonios Tsourdalakis also present for the special meeting.
The new High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus was very happy to be informed by Bishop Evmenios about the activities and works of the Holy Archdiocese in the region, as well as for the vision of Archbishop Makarios of Australia regarding the creation of a dynamic Greek Cultural Multispace in Victoria, the focus of which will be the historic and preserved building of the Holy Monastery “Axion Esti”.
As well as this, Sammoutis was given a tour of the facilities of the Holy Monastery “Axion Esti”, where Fr. Konstantinos Apostolellis informed him about the history of the Church and the origin of the blessed icon of the Virgin Mary “Axion Esti”. He also had the opportunity to venerate the Holy Relics of Saint John the Forerunner and Baptist and Saint Kosmas Aitolos.
