On Sunday, March 14, 2021, Metropolitan Athinagoras of Belgium officiated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of St. Barbara in Liege, in compliance with all COVID-19 restrictive measures.
Instead of another sermon and on the occasion of the beginning of Holy and Great Lent, the catechetical homily of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was read.
Before the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, the Metropolitan ordained the student Elias Aljerjos as a reader. Elias Aljerjos comes from Syria and is always willing to meet the needs of the parish.
Finally, the Metropolitan thanked the priest in charge, Protopresbyter Nikolaos Palamianakis, and Presbyter Servatio Xamo for their pastoral work and hoped that the Holy and Great Lent was a fruitful and spiritual period for all.
Metropolitan Athinagoras of Belgium officiated the Vespers of Forgiveness on Cheesefare Sunday in the Cathedral of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Brussels.
