On the feast day of St. Paisios the Athonite, and with the blessing of Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, Archbishop Christophoros of Kyriakoupolis announced the launch of a project to build a new church dedicated to Saints Paisios, Sophrony, and Porphyrios in the Airport Road area of Amman.
The Metropolitan also unveiled the project’s official website, which presents the vision of the initiative, provides updates on the construction process, and offers Orthodox faithful in Jordan and the diaspora the opportunity to contribute to the realization of the new church.
In a video message marking the occasion, Metropolitan Christophoros said that the choice of St. Paisios’ feast day for the announcement carries profound spiritual significance, as the project is dedicated to three great saints of the Church: the contemporary elders Paisios the Athonite and Porphyrios, together with St. Sophrony, Patriarch of Jerusalem, who embodies the historical and spiritual continuity of the Mother Church of Jerusalem.
He noted that these saints offer a living example of holiness and steadfast faith in the face of modern challenges, emphasizing that the Church’s mission extends beyond constructing buildings to building people spiritually through the example of the saints, who lived the Gospel as both witness and way of life.
Metropolitan Christophoros explained that the construction of a new church has become a pastoral necessity due to the rapid urban expansion in western Amman and the relocation of many Orthodox families to the Airport Road area. He stressed that the Church seeks to remain close to its faithful, serving as a beacon of faith and a source of peace, hope, and grace.
He also underlined that contributing to the construction of churches is a blessed work with lasting spiritual significance.
The Metropolitan expressed his appreciation to the Orthodox Society for Culture and Education for donating the land on which the church will be built. The property has been registered in the name of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, and, he noted, reflects the vision of previous generations who acquired the land in the hope that it would one day serve the Orthodox community through the establishment of a church.
He added that the project is being supervised by Archimandrite Athanasios Qaqish, who is overseeing all stages of its implementation.
Concluding his address, Metropolitan Christophoros invited Orthodox faithful in Jordan and throughout the diaspora to visit the project’s official website to learn more about the vision of the initiative, the lives of the three saints, the progress of construction, and ways to support the project.
He emphasized that contributing to the construction of the new church is not merely participation in a building project, but an investment in the future of the Christian presence and the mission of the Church in Jordan and the Holy Land.
The Metropolitan concluded by praying that God bless all benefactors and supporters and grant the successful completion of the project, so that it may stand as a lasting witness to faith, love, and the Church’s ministry for generations to come.
