On Wednesday, June 9, Metropolitan Theodosius of Kananga founded a chapel in honor of Panagia Portaitissa to commemorate her intercession when Archimandrite Fr. Chariton Pneumatikakis was in charge of the Mission.
The mission in Kananga was going through critical moments with looting and killing in the area. All the foreigners left and only Fr. Chariton and the sisters of the missionary brotherhood from Greece stayed.
But it was the turn of the Mission.
In the early hours of October 26, there was gunfire inside the enclosure. Kneeling in front of the icon of Panagia Portaitissa, Father Chariton was begging: “MY VIRGIN, DO THE MIRACLE, NOW”. Immediately the answer came!
The soldiers realized that they were in the Orthodox Mission and changing their attitude they begged for forgiveness. The Virgin Mary had intervened at the last moment with her miracle.
This event was told to the Metropolitan of Kananga by the faithful and he was so shocked that he wanted to build a chapel in memory of the miracle and in honor of Panagia Portaitissa.
So the time has come and the work begins immediately thanks to the love of two sponsors, a clergyman and another brother, who remain unknown. Let us all have the roof and terrible protection of our Holy Mother and let us take strength from the miracles that he performs daily so that we do not despair in the shell of our lives.
