A new chapter in the spiritual life of the Orthodox faithful in Gjirokastër unfolded with the opening of the chapel of the Skete of Saint Anna, celebrated on the feast day of the Mother of the Virgin Mary.
The service of the Thyranoixia (Opening of the Doors) was officiated by Metropolitan Nathanael of Gjirokastër, who also presided over the Divine Liturgy that followed.
The skete, located near the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Gjirokastër, was originally built twenty years ago by the late Archbishop Anastasios. The newly appointed Metropolitan Nathanael has now dedicated it to Saint Anna, honoring her role and legacy within the Orthodox tradition.
As noted by Fr. Elias Makos, the event marks a continuation of the vibrant ecclesiastical life in the region, strengthening the bond between local faithful and their spiritual heritage.
