The Feast of the Resurrection of Christ was solemnly and joyfully celebrated on April 12, 2026, at the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Buenos Aires.
The Divine Liturgy was served by Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Stefan Jovanović and Hieromonk David (Janketić), with the prayerful presence of clergy, representatives of the Serbian Embassy, and a large number of faithful who received Holy Communion on this great feast. Among them were thirteen newly illumined members of the Church—ten adults and three children, all Argentinians—who had been baptized the previous day on Holy Saturday and partook of the Eucharist for the first time.
This year’s celebration held special significance for the parish, as it marked the first Divine Liturgy celebrated in the church following the completion of new frescoes in March. During the service, Paschal greetings from Bishop Kirill of Buenos Aires and South-Central America were conveyed, and the official Paschal message of Porfirije Perić was read to the faithful.
Following the Liturgy, a festive meal was held in the cathedral hall, during which benefactors were honored for their support of the parish. The faithful exchanged traditional red eggs and greeted one another with the Paschal proclamation: “Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen!”
On Holy Saturday, April 11, the thirteen new members of the Church had received the sacrament of Baptism after several months of catechetical preparation offered annually at the cathedral. Addressing the newly baptized, Fr. Stefan emphasized that their reception into the Church was a source of joy for the entire Christian community, highlighting Christ’s command to preach and baptize all nations.
The celebrations reflected both the vibrant life of the Orthodox community in Argentina and the universal message of the Resurrection, bringing together faithful of diverse backgrounds in a shared expression of faith and renewal.
