Mr. Doros Venezis, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Kingdom of Sweden, paid his first official courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the Holy Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia in Stockholm. Ambassador Venezis assumed his distinguished duties in August 2026.
Ambassador Venezis was warmly welcomed by Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia, who offered him a guided tour of the facilities of St. George Cathedral of Stockholm and the Museum of Hellenic-Christian Heritage.
Metropolitan Cleopas also briefed the Ambassador on the history of the Cathedral and the significant restoration and renovation work undertaken there.
During their cordial meeting, Metropolitan Cleopas congratulated Ambassador Venezis on his first appointment as Ambassador and wished him health, strength, and every success in the fulfillment of his important mission. He also conveyed to him the heartfelt paternal greetings and blessing of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Metropolitan Cleopas expressed his particular appreciation for the Ambassador’s distinguished and extensive diplomatic career. Ambassador Venezis has served in the Foreign Service of the Republic of Cyprus since 2006.
Among his various diplomatic assignments, he served at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Cyprus to the European Union in Brussels, at the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Paris, and at the Permanent Mission of Cyprus to the United Nations in New York.
Before assuming his new duties in Sweden, he served as Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President of the Republic of Cyprus. He also holds a master’s degree from Harvard University, where he studied as a Fulbright/CASP scholar.
On the occasion of the visit, Metropolitan Cleopas presented Mr. Doros Venezis with a copy of his recently published study entitled St. George Cathedral of Stockholm.
The meeting concluded in a particularly warm and cordial atmosphere, with mutual wishes for fruitful and constructive cooperation.
