The annual coordination meeting on wildfire protection was held yesterday at Mount Athos, bringing together all competent authorities and agencies responsible for fire prevention and emergency preparedness in the monastic peninsula.
The meeting was attended by the Civil Administrator of Mount Athos, Alkiviadis Stefanis, along with representatives of the relevant services involved in safeguarding the Athonite State during the upcoming fire season.
Discussions focused on issues of prevention, operational coordination, and emergency readiness ahead of the summer months, with the aim of ensuring the effective protection of Mount Athos and its unique natural environment.
Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening cooperation among all participating institutions and services in order to improve preparedness against possible wildfire threats during the high-risk period.
In a social media post following the meeting, Civil Administrator Alkiviadis Stefanis stressed the importance of collective responsibility and coordinated action.
“With a sense of responsibility and a common goal, we continue the effort for the safety of the region and the protection of this unique monument of global value,” he stated.
