Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and all Africa held the memorial service before of the statue of the Archbishop Makarios III of Cyprus, located in the yard of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St. Savvas of Alexandria.
More specifically, Patriarch Theodore officiated the Orthros and the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St. Savvas of Alexandria, for the feast day of the Hieromartyr St. Charalambos
The Patriarch of Alexandria spoke about the life and the miracles of St. Charalambos. Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, Athanasios Kotsionis, the Cypriot Brotherhood of Alexandria, the representatives of organizations and associations and many believers attended the speech.
At the end of the Divine Eucharist, the Patriarch of Alexandria held a memory service before the statue of Archbishop Makarios III, located in the yard of the Monastery of St. Savvas. He also unveiled the mosaic with the Cypriot flag, placed in front of the statue.
Patriarch Theodore mentioned the great struggle of Archbishop Makarios III for a free and united Cyprus, as well as his great contribution to the missionary work in Africa. He also referred to the great help he offered as a member of the Kykkos Monastery.
The Consul General of Greece welcomed the ceremony, referring to the indivisible and fraternal bond of Greece and Cyprus. Moreover, he stressed that we need those brilliant church figures who continue to inspire us.
