Miltos Tentoglou clinched the gold medal in long jump at the Paris Olympic Games on Tuesday night, retaining the title he first won at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
With an impressive jump of 8.48 meters, Tentoglou becomes only the second long jump athlete to win consecutive gold medals, following the legendary Carl Lewis, who dominated the event with four consecutive Olympic golds from 1984 to 1996. In addition to his Olympic success, Tentoglou holds titles as both World Champion and European Champion.
Miltos Tentoglou’s achievement marks a historic milestone as he becomes the first Greek track and field athlete to win consecutive gold medals in the Olympics, and the first Greek athlete in the 21st century to achieve this feat since weightlifter Pyrros Dimas, who won three consecutive gold medals between 1992 and 2000.
This victory brings Greece its first gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games and its seventh overall in these Games (including 1 silver and 5 bronze medals). This marks Greece’s fifth-best performance in its Olympic history, following the 2004 Athens Games (16 medals), 2000 Sydney Games (8 medals), 1996 Atlanta Games (13 medals), and the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 (47 medals).
In the long jump event, Jamaica’s Wayne Pinnock secured the silver medal with a jump of 8.36 meters, while Italy’s Mattia Furlani took the bronze with a jump of 8.34 meters.
