On Monday, September 28, 2020, in Varivode, where serious crime was committed 25 years ago and where, almost two months after the military operation “Storm”, nine mostly elderly residents of that village near Kistanje were killed, a memorial service and a commemoration were held.
The requiem service for the victims was celebrated by Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb and Ljubljana and Bishop Nikodim of Dalmatia with the clergy.
After the memorial service, the Metropolitan said that the commemoration of the innocent victims was a warning to all people. He called the crime in Varivode a terrible evil that defeated human dignity.
The commemoration was attended by Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, envoy of the President of the Republic of Croatia Aleksandar Tolnauer, envoy of the President of the Parliament Krunoslav Katicic, Deputy Prime Minister Boris Milosevic, Minister Ivan Malenica, envoy of the President of Serbia Veran Matic, President of the Serbian National Council and President of the Independent Democratic Serbian Party, Milorad Pupovac, Sibenik-Knin County Prefect Goran Pauk, Mayor of Knin Marko Jelic, representatives of the diplomatic corps and associations.
