On Saturday, July 5, the international track and field meeting “Dromia” took place at the fully renovated Municipal Stadium of Vari “K. Baglatsis.” Over 40 countries were represented by athletes, and Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia and Mozambique was present.
Olympic medalists and top champions from all over the world competed to achieve qualifying standards for upcoming major competitions.
The world-renowned “Dromia International Sprint & Relays Meeting,” part of the World Athletics “Silver” category, is co-organized by the Athletic Club “Dromeas Vari” and the Municipality of Vari–Voula–Vouliagmeni. The event is held under the auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sports and Infrastructure/Transport, the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS), the National Federation for Persons with Disabilities (EAOM-AMEA), and the University of the Peloponnese.
This year’s event featured a strong Greek presence. Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou impressed once again, taking first place in the long jump. All members of the national sprint teams participated in individual events and relays. The Greek teams competed against national squads from Turkey, Uganda, and India.
A historic moment for Greek athletics occurred during the women’s 200-meter final when Dimitra Tsoukalá and Polyniki Emmanouilidou became the first Greek women to run under 23 seconds in the same race. Many Greek champions achieved personal bests and secured qualification for international competitions.
Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia and Mozambique presented awards to the distinguished athletes.
