Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia officiated the Divine Liturgy today, November 22, 2020, at the Church of Saint Alexandros.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy in the presence of the head of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia Vladimir Odavic, a memorial service was held for the rest of the soul of the late Patriarch of Serbia, Irinej.
In his speech, Metropolitan Ioannis spoke of the great contribution of the late hierarch who always said that Kosovo was the heart of Serbia, seeking the peaceful coexistence of Serbs and Albanians.
The late patriarch was a great asset to Serbia and a venerable personality full of genuine Christian love for the people.
The late hierarch always stressed that the Greek-Serbian close relations of love and friendship have deep roots in the past, but also have a future and that “the love of the Serbian people for the Greek people is special, love that is passed down from generation to generation.”
The Metropolitan of Zambia concluded, saying: “We share the suffering caused by this difficult ordeal and extend our fraternal condolences. We pray Christ, our Lord, the One Who is the resurrection and the life, to rest the soul of Patriarch Irinej with the righteous ones.”
