On 16 February, Metropolitan Ioannis of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Zambia and Mozambique paid a courtesy visit to the Ambassador of Somalia, Hawa Hassan Mohamed, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Zambia.
The purpose of the visit was to convey his sincere appreciation for Her Excellency’s distinguished presence and meaningful contribution to the recent events organized by the Metropolis in observance of the International Day of the Greek Language, held in collaboration with UNESCO, as well as the commemorative Olympic Fair Play Integrity Torch Relay ceremony hosted at the National Assembly of Zambia.
In recognition of her steadfast commitment to the promotion of Olympic values, Metropolitan Ioannis presented to Her Excellency the Fair Play Passport within the framework of his mission as the African Continent Ambassador of Olympic Ideals. The gesture symbolized a shared dedication to integrity, respect, and peaceful coexistence among nations.
During their constructive exchange, both dignitaries underscored the strategic importance of advancing cultural heritage initiatives and strengthening the role of diplomatic sports engagement as instruments of unity and mutual understanding. Particular emphasis was placed on the responsibility to inspire the youth of Zambia to embrace the principles of peace, ethical leadership, and civic accountability as the foundation of a sustainable future.
Reference was also made to the forthcoming establishment of an Olympic Museum, the first of its kind in Africa, envisioned as a focal point for the promotion of Olympic education and activities across the continent, further consolidating Zambia’s role as a regional hub for the dissemination of Olympic values and intercultural dialogue.
