On Tuesday, June 3, 2026, the Metropolitan of Zambia paid a courtesy visit to the offices of the Delegation of the European Union in Maputo, where he met with the European Union Ambassador to the Republic of Mozambique, Mr. Antonino Maggiore.
The Metropolitan and Ambassador Maggiore share a longstanding friendship dating back to the period when Mr. Maggiore served as Italy’s Ambassador to Zambia in Lusaka.
The meeting took place in a particularly warm and cordial atmosphere and focused on matters of mutual interest, especially the various programs being planned and implemented by the Holy Metropolis.
Special attention was given to the Metropolis’ Olympic Program in view of the Olympic History Exhibition scheduled for next November, marking the 130th anniversary of the revival of the modern Olympic Games in Athens (1896–2026).
During the discussions, the Metropolitan briefed Ambassador Maggiore on the activities and initiatives of the local Orthodox Church, highlighting its educational, cultural, and social outreach programs.
For his part, Ambassador Maggiore expressed his appreciation for the social and cultural work carried out by the Holy Metropolis and reaffirmed the European Union Delegation’s commitment to maintaining and strengthening its fruitful cooperation with the Orthodox Church.
