With smiles of optimism and in an atmosphere of emotion, the Blessing Ceremony (Agiasmos) for the opening of the new academic year was held on Tuesday, September 9, in the Conference Hall of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
For the sixth consecutive year, the service was conducted by Metropolitan John of Zambia and Mozambique, who conveyed joy and optimism through his words, along with the heartfelt wishes of His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece. As he emphasized, “the new year must be filled with health, progress, and light for everyone.”
The ceremony was attended by the Rector of NKUA, Professor G. Siasos, members of the Governing Council, the President of the Medical School, Professor N. Arkadopoulos, presidents of schools and departments, faculty, students, and staff.
In his address, Medical School President Professor N. Arkadopoulos highlighted the School’s unwavering commitment to continue training excellent physicians while also serving society through the important work of University Clinics and Laboratories. “The Medical School will remain for Greece a beacon of knowledge, ethics, and hope, guided by optimism, love, and dedication,” he noted.
Rector G. Siasos wished “a good and creative academic year,” underlining the high level of studies and the continuous upward progress of the Medical School.
Concluding, Metropolitan John, offering his blessing, expressed the hope that “our doctors will always be enlightened and continue, with love, scientific excellence, and humanity, to serve both humankind and society.”
