In a heartfelt message addressed to the clergy and faithful of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland emphasized the importance of 2025 as a milestone year marking the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council held in Nicaea in 325 AD.
“The year 2025 is a significant time for Orthodoxy and the entire Church of Christ,” Metropolitan Sawa wrote, underlining the Council’s foundational role in defining the Nicene Creed. “Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Council of the Holy Fathers of the Church established the dogmatic teaching contained in the Symbol of Faith,” he said, noting that this teaching remains unchanged and is “the greatest treasure of our faith.”
To honor this landmark anniversary, Metropolitan Sawa announced that the commemoration will take place during the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, celebrated on the Holy Mount Grabarka on August 18–19, 2025.
“With grateful prayer, we will pay homage to the Triune God for allowing us to preserve the unaltered doctrine of His Church in the Symbol of Faith,” he declared.
At the foot of the crosses—both the ancient and those newly placed for the 100th anniversary of the Polish Church’s Autocephaly—Metropolitan Sawa called for a unified voice: “Together, we wish to sing, ‘I believe in one God, the Father Almighty.’ May our united voice rise from the Holy Mount Grabarka and carry forth into the world, bringing goodness, peace, and mutual respect.”
He concluded with a prayerful appeal: “Lord, grant peace to the whole world and to all its inhabitants.”
