As part of his visit to Ethiopia, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), visited the Dejazmach Balcha Russian Red Cross Hospital in Addis Ababa on June 4, one of the oldest Russian medical institutions on the African continent.
Metropolitan Anthony was welcomed by the hospital’s director, Andrey Obukhov, who presented the history and current activities of the institution. The DECR Chairman toured the hospital grounds and met with members of the medical staff.
Earlier, Metropolitan Anthony had also visited the Migbare Senay Hospital, which operates under the Ethiopian Orthodox Church’s Synodal Department for Children and Family Affairs. During both visits, discussions focused on prospects for cooperation between medical institutions affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
Later that evening, Metropolitan Anthony visited the Russian Center for Science and Culture (Russian House) in Addis Ababa.
