Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine received commanders of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at his residence at St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery on June 9, 2026.
Among those received by the Primate of the autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine were Nazariy Kishak, commander of the 91st Independent Anti-Tank Battalion, and platoon commander Sviatoslav Bretsko.
The meeting was also attended by military chaplains Archpriest Dmytro Voloshyn and Archpriest Liubomyr Svystun.
During the gathering, Metropolitan Epifaniy spoke with the Ukrainian servicemen and expressed his gratitude for their dedicated service and sacrifice in defending Ukraine against Russian aggression.
In recognition of his service and commitment, Commander Nazariy Kishak was awarded the Order of the Holy Archangel Michael, First Class, one of the Church’s highest distinctions.
The Metropolitan emphasized the importance of supporting those serving on the front lines and reaffirmed the Church’s prayers for Ukraine’s defenders, their families, and the restoration of peace and justice in the country.
