As part of his pastoral visit to Jönköping, Sweden, Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden visited on Saturday, October 5, 2019, the under-construction recycling plant in the area.
The Mechanical Engineer and site manager of the project, Ioannis Tsiobanis, head of the 22-member group and representative of the Lykomitros-steel company based in Volos, showed the Metropolitan of Sweden around.
The Metropolitan was toured in the premises and had the opportunity to speak with and congratulate the staff on the progress of the work. The unit under construction will be identical to the one already built in Ioannina, that was recently inaugurated.
“The current construction, with state-of-the-art specifications, in the field of recycling and automatic recovery of recyclable materials, by a Greek construction company, is a riposte to those who consider Greece as backward,” the Metropolitan said in his welcoming address.
“We are proud that our compatriots have the know-how to contribute to the protection of the environment,” he added. “A few days ago, we had the pleasure of having the ‘Green Patriarch’ with us, known for his immense influence, internationally, on raising our awareness of the environmental crisis we are facing and our moral obligation to protect our planet.”
On Sunday, October 6, the Metropolitan officiated at the Divine Liturgy in the parish. He also granted the office of the Oeconomus to Fr. Nikolaos, praising his zeal, volunteerism, and varied pastoral activity, since his main daily occupation is in a local hospital where he works as a nephrologist.
