In the presence of several students, their parents, and teachers, the sanctification rite for the beginning of the new school year was performed at the Greek School in Stockholm on Saturday, October 19, 2024, by Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia. The ceremony was also attended by the priest of St. George’s Cathedral in Stockholm, Archimandrite Bartholomew Iatridis.
At the end of the service, the Metropolitan blessed all the students, parents, and teachers, while Fr. Bartholomew presented each student with an icon of Saint Nicholas and gave the teachers the 2025 calendar of the Metropolis.
After speaking to the students about Saint Gerasimos of Kefalonia, whose memory the Church honors tomorrow, and the importance of church attendance, the Archbishop presented the President of the school, Dimitrios Siotis, with his recently published study on the late Hieromonk Eusebius Vittis, titled “The Missionary Ministry of Archimandrite Eusebius Vittis in Scandinavia 1965-1980,” published by the Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece.
A small reception followed on the school premises, where the Metropolitan had the opportunity to speak with several parents and the school administration, offering them his best wishes for success and divine guidance from above.
The Greek School of Stockholm shares its location with the Swedish Day School, has over 400 students, and offers Greek language courses in several suburbs of the wider area throughout the week.
