Speaking to SKAI TV, Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus talked about Turkish provocation, Skopje, but also about the riots in the centre of Athens in favor of Dimitris Koufodinas.
“Erdogan has decided with the obsession of neo-Ottomanism that Turkey does not belong to the West, and he does not want any communication or essential connection with the West. He has unfortunately joined forces, with the blessings of the blonde race, as we used to call before our Russian Orthodox brothers, who arm him in a scandalous and unacceptable manner, and he wants to appear as the protector of the whole Islamic world. Turkey’s attempt to challenge the status of the Aegean and Cyprus is timeless,” said Seraphim.
The Metropolitan also referred to the name of Northern Macedonia, highlighting: “National issues always smolder the conscience of the Greeks. The issue of conceding the name of Greek Macedonia to our Slav brothers, friends and neighbours is somethings unacceptable. And of course the fact that at the same time we have recognized a Bulgarian dialect as a supposedly Macedonian dialect. And most importantly, while the name of this country is Northern Macedonia, with or without quotation marks, the inhabitants are called Macedonians. This is a vehicle for expansionism, in the long run, of course.”
At another point, the Metropolitan referred to the riots in the centre of Athens by people who shouted slogans in favor of Dimitris Koufodinas.
“Dimitris Koufodinas is not in prison for his ideas. He is not a prisoner of ideology. He is incarcerated because, unfortunately, he committed a series of criminal activities, he killed 11 people. This is the tragedy of this man who, unfortunately, has no regrets. He does not think that at some point he will be called before God to speak of his deeds.”
