In the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece performed the Doxology service this morning at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Timios Prodromos (Saint John the Forerunner) in Xanthi on the 100th anniversary of the city’s liberation.
Earlier, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Trifyllia and Olympia celebrated the Eucharist accompanied by Synodic Bishops and Hierarchs from the neighbouring Metropolises.
The Divine Word was proclaimed by Metropolitan Ioustinos of Nea Krini and Kalamaria, who placed focus on the intercession of the Theotokos at crucial moments of the nation. “Church and Nation are inextricably linked,” emphasized the Metropolitan.
He also spoke about the need for cooperation, noting that “it is great madness to cut off the Church from the social fabric. The Church is our mother,” he said. The Metropolitan added, “Enough blood has been shed to win liberty and we must not forget that.”
