On Sunday, July 6, Metropolitan Iakovos of Mexico celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Diavaide, Pediada. In his homily, he reflected on the day’s Gospel reading, drawing attention to the spiritual lessons it offers for contemporary life.
At the close of the Liturgy, the annual memorial service for the late Maria Choulaki was held, with prayers for her repose and remembrance by the faithful.
Later in the day, Metropolitan Iakovos, joined by Metropolitan Andreas of Arkalohori, visited the 133rd Combat Wing in Kastelli, where a special commemorative event took place to mark the 82nd anniversary of the Second Sabotage of Kastelli Airfield during World War II, an act of resistance that remains deeply rooted in the memory of the local population.
The evening concluded with a performance of traditional Cretan songs by the Parish School of Traditional Music of Kastelli, under the direction of Mr. Nikos Chnaris, offering a moving tribute through music to the legacy of bravery and sacrifice.
