Metropolitan Ioannis of Langadas reposed in the Lord a few hours ago.
The late Metropolitan had contracted COVID-19 disease and was hospitalized in a clinic in Thessaloniki.
According to Papageorgiou Hospital, the health situation of the Metropolitan of Langadas deteriorated, he had a COVID-19-related respiratory infection and died of cardiopulmonary arrest this morning.
The funeral service for the late Metropolitan of Langadas, Ioannis, will take place in the Metropolitan Church on Monday, November 16, at 12 p.m.
Metropolitan Theologos of Serres will preside over the funeral service in the presence of three priests of the First Diocese due to the COVID-19 restrictive measures.
Due to the COVID-19 strict measures, believers are not allowed to attend the funeral service.
It is noted that the Metropolitan of Serres was appointed as locum tenens for the Metropolis of Langadas.
On behalf of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, the First Secretary of the Holy Synod, Archimandrite Dorotheos Paparis, will deliver the eulogy.
Ioannis (Tassias) was born in Thessaloniki in 1958. He graduated from the Ecclesiastical Pedagogical Academy in 1979 and from the School of Pastoral and Social Theology of the University of Thessaloniki in 1982.
He was elected on May 10, 2010, by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece as Metropolitan of Langadas. He was ordained Metropolitan on May 16, 2010, by Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens at Saint Dimitrios Church in Thessaloniki.
He authored numerous theological articles and studies.
