Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv shared a heartfelt message on social media on the occasion of the Feast of St. Nicholas, emphasizing the profound significance of the day for both children and adults.
He described St. Nicholas Day as a uniquely uplifting moment in the year, especially for children, for whom no other celebration brings such “faith, hope, joy, and anticipation of a miracle.” Adults, he noted, also treasure the opportunity to give gifts, listen to children’s dreams, and see the wonder in their eyes. “I believe that through the prayers of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the Lord will surely work a miracle in the life of each child,” he wrote.
Metropolitan Epifaniy also shared details of his visit to a warm and moving celebration held for children with disabilities at the Kyiv Orthodox Theological Academy. The event was organized in collaboration with the Obolon District Center for Comprehensive Rehabilitation of Children and Youth — an institution that for many years has offered care, psychological and physical rehabilitation, support, and opportunities for young people with special needs to develop their talents and integrate into society.
He stressed the moral obligation to ensure that Ukrainian children feel warmth, care, and support, even amid the hardships and suffering brought by the war. “They deserve this,” the Metropolitan said. “We must do everything within our power to preserve their childhood, their faith in goodness and in God, to bring them joy, gifts, and positive emotions, and to make sure they are not left alone in difficult times.”
Concluding his message, Metropolitan Epifaniy offered prayers for Ukrainian children, their parents, guardians, teachers, and mentors, asking God to protect them from all harm. “May St. Nicholas continue to work miracles — including through each one of us,” he said.
