Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine met on May 1, 2025, at his residence with defenders of Ukraine — the servicemen of the 808th Dniester Separate Support Brigade, led by their commander, Colonel Yevhen Huska, and their chaplain, Archpriest Ivan Tkachuk.
Also present at the meeting were Colonel Ruslan Ratushniak, Head of the Chaplaincy Service of the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Archpriest Oleksii Honcharenko, Secretary of the Synodal Department for Military Chaplaincy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
During the discussion, the Metropolitan was presented with a project for the future chapel that will serve military personnel and their families. Construction of the new place of worship is expected to begin soon.
Special attention was given to the commemoration of fallen Ukrainian soldiers, including the Wall of Remembrance at the walls of St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery and the Square of Fallen Heroes, a memorial complex located on the territory of the military unit.
Metropolitan Epifaniy expressed his gratitude to the servicemen for their dedicated service in defending Ukraine from Russian aggression and awarded them with ecclesiastical honors.
