On 6 December, the day of the commemoration of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine presided over the Divine Liturgy at the historic church dedicated to Saint Nicholas (Mykola Prytyska) in Kyiv’s Podil district.
Concelebrating with the Primate of the autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine were Archbishop Lavrentiy of Luhansk and Starobilsk, Archbishop Agapit of Vyshhorod, the rector of the church Archpriest Oleh Malaniak, and invited clergy.
After the Gospel reading, His Beatitude addressed the faithful with a sermon and offered a special prayer to the Lord for the protection of Ukraine at a time when the homeland remains in danger.
This day also marks the Armed Forces Day of Ukraine, and during the service prayers were offered for the soldiers defending the state, for the authorities and the people, as well as for the repose of all fallen defenders and civilians.
On the feast of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, known as the “victor of nations,” the hierarchs, clergy, and faithful offered fervent prayers for his intercession and for the triumph of truth and goodness in Ukraine.
After the service, children received printed books and sweet gifts.
